Neha Kakkar and Himansh Kohli may not be in love, but their new love song Oh Humsafar tells a different story

Is love brewing between Bollywood playback singer Neha Kakkar and Ranchi Diaries actor Himansh Kohli? Well, if you follow Neha on Instagram, you will be compelled to believe that the two are definitely in love with a barrage of cute images that the singer keeps posting of the couple. However, as all smart celebrities, Neha too has resorted to the defence of ‘we’re good friends’ and nothing more. “Honestly, we just keep on laughing about these reports,” says Neha. “I don’t think there’s anything wrong in what they are saying, but it’s not true. Two best friends can totally say they love and adore each other, without any meaning of romance,” she told HT.

While, Neha may deny her love for Himansh, but the two are spotted everywhere together – including parties, on holidays and most recently in a sizzling new love song produced by T-series called Oh Humsafar. The duo have starred as the onscreen couple for the music video of the song which has been sung by Neha and her elder brother Tony Kakkar who has also composed the song. The video for the song has been shot in the picturesque Greek islands of Crete.

Meanwhile, we aren’t the only ones who fell for their love story following Neha’s constant coochy-coo updates with Himansh on Instagram. In fact, Himansh Kohli’s parents also fell for it and thought the couple got married.

“This year, Mahashivratri happened to be on Valentine’s Day. So, we posted a snap together. Valentine’s is not only about boyfriend-girlfriend, even two friends can celebrate it. But people thought that we have married each other on Mahashivratri. My father also called and he was like, ‘Beta why have you married without informing us. We wouldn’t have said no’. That felt a bit bad... that they believed something that was not true,” Kohli told

Baaghi 2’s Ek Do Teen: Another lesson from Bollywood in terrible remixes

People say there are songs that shouldn’t be touched, the classic hit numbers. And they are right, as Baaghi 2’s recently released Ek Do Teen featuring Jacqueline Fernandez proves. The recreated version is just another club number peppered with a voice that constantly asks the listeners to sing along, hinting at the subconscious fear of maker's–‘What if the audience trolls our version?’ And yes, to aid the Spanish listeners, there’s also a chorus of ‘Un dos tres’.

The original track, composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal for the 1998 Tezaab, had the dance diva Madhuri Dixit gracefully taking over the stage and making it her own space, with moves that could barely be passed off as suggestive. However, in the new song, there are unnecessary shots of Jacqueline trying to be sexy whilst struggling to maintain a connection in some way to the Alka Yagnik song. It’s a pathetic attempt to spin money and woo the audience. What’s unfortunate is that very soon, very tragically, the YouTube views of the remastered track will reach a 100 million. Because people are curious, and maybe because the industry has nothing interesting to offer. The trend of remixing old numbers is not new. But it has definitely seen a growth in the recent years. From Raees’ Laila Main Laila to Machine’s Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast, there’s hardly a track that does what it should be doing–being respectful to the golden hits.

The one disaster that is difficult to swallow is A R Rahman’s remixed version of Humma Humma. What was that? It had Badshah rapping, and ruining the upbeat vocals of Remo Fernandes, Suresh Peters & Swarnalatha. Featuring Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur, the song was a part of the OK Jaanu soundtrack. OK Jaanu is a remake of Mani Ratnam’s Tamil hit, OK Kanmani. The new Humma Humma takes bits of Parandhu Sella Vaa from OK Kanmani and Humma Humma, thus destroying the remastered version completely. With its feet in two boats, it had no option but to drown in the deep waters of terrible music.

Rahman reportedly wasn’t on board with the idea of recreating Humma Humma for the Shaad Ali movie, but after Ali and the producers managed to convince the Oscar-winner of Badshah’s prowess to sprinkle his ‘magic’, he gave his nod to the song. Singer Remo Fernandes was not impressed with the new Humma Humma as he told Mid-day in an interview, “It is but a pale, insipid version of the original. Vocally, instrumentally and arrangement-wise, it seems to be a hurried, uninspired job”.And then there’s the more recent Raid’s version of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s Sanu Ek Pal. With lyrics by Manoj Muntashir, music by Tanishk Bagchi and vocals by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, the track sounds like just another Bollywood romantic number. The folky, raspy sound of Nusrat has been taken over by his nephew Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. The vocals aren’t imperfect, but they don’t do justice to Nusrat’s original either.

According to music composer Amit Trivedi–presently a judge of a show on Amazon called The Remix–musicians are forced by producers into remaking the classics.

“The pressure is only from the producers and the labels. No composer, no singer would ever want to sing a remix. I don’t know about others but I definitely know a lot of people, who don’t want to do someone else’s songs in films”, Trivedi had said in an interview with Indianexpress

However, not all remixes are bad. Take, for instance, the crowdsourced version of Rahman’s Urvasi Urvasi from the Tamil movie Kadhalan. The song is a lesson in how to do things the right way if you are travelling the tired path of remixes. The lyrics sent by fans were politically loaded. There were references to Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, and Demonetisation. But the number didn’t miss out on all the flirting and fun either. In this case, it was Rahman himself who had asked fans for their suggestions in order to rearrange the song.

Salman Khan’s NGO Being Human gets show-cause notice from BMC; blacklist warning given

Salman Khan’s Being Human Foundation is making the headlines over facing a show-cause notice with a warning to be blacklisted by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). As per reports, the NGO was not able to set up concessional dialysis units in Bandra over a year after being assigned the project by BMC. An agreement was issued by the BMC which states its public-private partnership with Salman Khan’s Being Human Foundation. As per the agreement, the civic body was responsible for allocation of the space whereas Being Human would be responsible for hiring staff and maintenance of the centres.

In December 2016, BMC had decided to start 12 dialysis centres which would be equipped to perform 10,000 procedures each month. Being Human foundation was expected to install 24 dialysis machines at a facility in Palli Hill. According to an official, “the Being Human foundation was expected to run a dialysis centre at Bandra (West). We had issued them all the necessary permissions and were paid the bank guarantee too. But the organisation was not able to run the project; we have issued them a show-cause notice that they would be blacklisted.” The NGO was also aware of the possible blacklisting.

“The Being Human Foundation has certain mandatory requirements which need to be included in contracts. There were discussions around those which ultimately did not materialise. There was no formal contract/MoU signed at all,” a representative from the Being Human foundation was quoted saying. The civic body has invited the proposals for the project in July 2016. In the agreement, Salman Khan’s Being Human Foundation had offered to provide dialysis services at Rs 339.50 against the BMC’s rate of Rs 350
